On Monday we shared some classic big budget summer blockbuster films that would be great rentals and would save you money by avoiding going to the movie theater this summer.  If you’ve already seen those first nine movies (or maybe they aren’t your type), then here are 10 more classic summer hits to choose from that are perfect for taking a break from the heat.

Transformers

When Shia Lebeouf’s yellow Camaro turns out to be a giant shapeshifting robot, an intergalactic battle between good and evil is joined and Earth is the battlefield.

Risky Business

Tom Cruise joined the A-list as a driven, intense teenage overachiever who

teams up with a very sexy young working girl (Rebecca DeMornay) to pay for wrecking his dad’s Porsche.

National Lampoon’s Animal House

The college comedy all the others have been copying for 35 years, full of classic quotable lines and memorable characters, particularly John Belushi’s 7th-year senior, Bluto.

Mission: Impossible III

J.J. Abrams took the reins of Tom Cruise’s durable spy franchise to make its best installment, with its best villain (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and best love interest (Michelle Monaghan).

Coming to America

Eddie Murphy launched his second career, the one where he plays five roles in one movie, with the story of an African prince who goes to Queens to find his queen.

Top Gun

Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer may or may not be acting out a gay allegory disguised as a Cold War fighter pilot epic, but either way, they get a chance to show the Russkies who’s boss.

The Blues Brothers

Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi had a smash hit with the rare musical comedy that knows what it’s talking about when it comes to the music, and pursues a “more is more” philosophy to car chases.

Blade Runner

Ridley Scott’s future film noir has Harrison Ford hunting down rogue androids that look just like us, while he inconveniently also falls in love with one. To this day one of the best-looking sci-fi movies ever.

Alien

A perfectly plotted and paced horror film set aboard a cargo spaceship infiltrated by an H.R. Giger nightmare of a beast. In space, no one can hear you scream.

Star Trek

J.J. Abrams’ reboot of the enduring sci-fi franchise with a whole new cast succeeds against all odds thanks to a fun script and near-perfect recasting of Kirk, Spock, and the other iconic roles.
